Frequently Asked Questions
Q. When are your next Teacher Training Courses?
Answer: To see the full schedule of the next teacher training courses please click here.
Q. Do I receive a Certificate for the Young Yoga Masters Kids Yoga Teacher Training course?
Answer: Yes – Each participant in the training will receive a signed certificate stating the number of hours of Kids Yoga Teacher Training they have completed (usually 14 – 16 hours of Kids Yoga Teacher Training). If someone wants more information or to verify your training you can refer them to the Young Yoga Masters course description or e-mail info@youngyogamasters.com.
Q. Will I be able to teach the children in my classroom or daycare room as part of a circle or daily physical education?
Answer: Yes – in the Young Yoga Masters training we only use beginner yoga poses that are easy to do. The manual includes instructions to safely and easily introduce yoga to children, regardless of your yoga experience. You will also have a six week curriculum to teach meditations and stress reduction techniques in a kid-friendly way. Each teacher is also taught how to create simple classes to introduce new themes for your own curriculum.
Q. Can I teach kids yoga as a Kids Yoga Teacher in a daycare, school, or studio with this training?
Answer: You will complete the training with a six week curriculum and the tools to create new kids yoga classes to start teaching. Your certificate will state the number of hours you have received in the training (currently sixteen hours).
Some daycares, schools, and studios may require you to have a 200 hr adult yoga teacher training certificate, although many do not require this. We advise you to check with each organization or insurance company as to their standards.
We suggest you check for regulations on teaching yoga in the country, province, state or area where you want to teach.
Q. Is Young Yoga Masters registered with Yoga Alliance?
Answer: No, Young Yoga Masters is not registered with Yoga Alliance USA or Yoga Alliance International. Most standards and requirements to teach yoga are voluntary. Since most countries do not mandate certification for teaching yoga, we feel it best to keep costs down by avoiding unnecessary fees. Please check for specific regulations, if any, in your country.
To see a discussion of the pros and cons of registering with Yoga Alliance you can read this blog post: New Standards in Kids Yoga Training.
We do encourage those teaching Kids Yoga to continue to do professional development and upgrade their skills and training.
Q. What’s different about the Young Yoga Masters Kids Yoga Teacher Training?
Although we haven’t taken most of the Kids Yoga programs out there, we’re confident that you won’t be getting recycled material in our course. Some of the things that set Young Yoga Masters apart:
- Real Yoga In a Ready-to-Teach Curriculum: We provide a ready to teach curriculum to get you started. This curriculum is based on real yoga themes. It’s perfect for those who want to give kids more than pretending to be animals, it shows you how to teach real yoga themes to kids in a way kids love! I’ve had more than one student say the material they received is more thorough and complete than what they received in their 200 hour yoga training.
- Follow Up Support: Most courses end and the student is left to navigate their teaching on their own. At Young Yoga Masters we provide follow up and ongoing training with our website and weekly blog. You can stay in touch with your trainer and other kids yoga teachers after the course is over.
- We hold Nothing Back: Our goal is to create kids yoga teachers. We show you our lesson plans, our tips for what works and what doesn’t work, and give lots of stories and examples from years of teaching kids yoga. Because at the end of the training all that matters is you can take what you’ve learned and teach children yoga.
- Shadowing: For those coming into Toronto for the Kids Yoga Training, an optional bonus for students of the course is to shadow Aruna as she teaches her kids yoga classes. Contact us to make arrangements to shadow at one of her kids classes. Come once, twice, as many times as you want till you’re ready to teach a class with real kids.
All these help teachers foster a love of yoga in children. And that’s what we’re all about.
Q. Can I take the course if I am pregnant or have an injury? Is their a lot of yoga in the training?
Answer: About forty per cent of the training course is spent doing yoga as we cover the curriculum, yoga poses, songs, and games. The yoga pose times are significantly reduced compared to what you would teach in a full class with children.
If you have a situation that does not allow you to do the yoga poses, you can observe this part of the training. No one should do yoga when it will aggravate their current condition. You will still be able to teach kids yoga if you cannot do the yoga yourself. You can use the pictures provided in the manuals and curriculum to illustrate the poses to children.
Q. Is there a minimum age limit for taking the Kids Yoga Teacher Training Course?
Answer: There is no set minimum age for the course. So far the youngest participant in the course was 14 years old. She took the course to use for her babysitting jobs. If a young person is interested in yoga and feels they can be part of the full course then they are welcome to attend. The course is 16 hours, about 40% is doing yoga/physical and the rest is spent studying and learning from the course materials and manual. Those taking the course who are under 18 will require a release form signed by their guardian.
Q. What is the Cancellation Policy for the Kids Yoga Teacher Training?
Answer: If a participant needs to withdraw their registration more than two weeks prior to the start of the course a full refund will be given minus a $50 withdrawal fee.
If the withdrawal takes place during the two weeks prior to the start of course, a refund minus a $150 fee will be given. This fee is made up of a $50 withdrawal fee and a $100 credit toward a future Kids Yoga Teacher Training course offered on the Young Yoga Masters schedule. Any credits must be used within 18 months. Please note, the Kids Yoga Teacher Training may or may not be returning to your area so you may have to travel to use the credit.
Once the course begins, no refunds will be given. Please speak to the organizers if there are exceptional circumstances.
Young Yoga Masters reserves the right to cancel any course that does not have sufficient enrollment. Any cancellation by Young Yoga Masters and the course hosts will be made at the time of the early registration deadline for that course. A full refund will be given in the event of a course cancellation by Young Yoga Masters or the course hosts.
Q. I can’t make it to the training, can I just purchase the curriculum, manual, and course material without taking the course?
Answer: No, the course materials are not available for purchase outside of the course at this time.
In the meantime you can contact Aruna about coming to your city to offer the course.
